Vector Onesie Designs

Vector Onesie Designs

For the final project in my Digital Illustration class, my professor gave one guideline in two words: Impress me. While I love the opportunity for creative freedom, I felt quite intimidated upon receipt of this assignment. This project is supposed to show a culmination of the skills I have gained as a graphic designer/vector artist this semester. The possibilities seemed limitless, particularly for someone as indecisive as myself. After I designed my t-shirt, I posted it to Facebook. My cousin said he thought it would be a hilarious design to have printed on a onesie for his forthcoming baby. I really liked that idea, as did my husband, Michael. Since then, Mike and I have been tossing around the idea of starting up a side business. We would sell funny onesies that I design. This project came at the perfect time, because I decided I wanted to use it as an opportunity to try out some potential onesie designs. We are a great team, Michael and I. Typically, I...

Vector Gig Poster

Vector Gig Poster

This was a really fun assignment. I was given the task of creating a gig poster for my Digital Illustration class. I was told to choose a (fake) band name and genre. I had a ton of ideas swirling around in my head right from the start, so I knew making this poster would be a good time. My husband and I somehow came up with the idea of a barrel of monkeys escaping from the barrel and revolting against it, because it is a symbol of their oppression. Sometimes I like to scare myself out of doing awesome things. So I started with a different concept. I originally started with the fan idea. I played with it a lot and just wasn’t really happy with the way it was turning...

Vector T-Shirt Design

Vector T-Shirt Design

I am really loving my Vector Graphics class. My most recent assignment was to create a design for a t-shirt. I’m usually a pretty indecisive person, so I don’t usually have solid ideas just come to me. If they do, they usually don’t stick. When it does happen, it’s a beautiful thing. I have seen a few of these hilarious ironic cross stitched decorations that I wanted to channel for my t-shirt design. Here is one that inspired me: I sketched out a few things, mostly to meet the class requirements, but I was excited to get started with my design, so I don’t have as many sketches as usual:   I had come up with several ideas of what my sassy saying could be… Yes, like a nerd I made a note in my phone with ideas. Things like “Homie Don’t Play”, “I <3 Kirk O’Bane”, “Word.”, “Mom Said I’m Cool”… I don’t know, okay?! I asked my husband for ideas and he and I brainstormed for a while. Eventually,...
